I am so excited to be sharing this gorgeous engagement session on the blog today! Katherine and Danny are such a sweet couple, and we had so much for their engagement session! Katherine chose 3 beautiful dresses that complinetd Danny (and this beautiful location) so well! I loved that they turned their engagement session into a fun date night (which I always recommend). They enjoyed the evening with dinner and watching a play.
I absolutely love Katherine and Danny’s love story! “We met freshman year of high school at Antonian College Prep. Danny was wondering the hallways asking everyone to borrow a pencil for an Algebra test he had next period. I eagerly gave him mine (which he didn’t return for 4 months). After he finally returned my pencil, we quickly became close friends. He asked to date me a couple of times before I gave in and finally said yes. From that moment, we went to every prom, homecoming and Sadie Hawkins dance together throughout High school. I cheered him on at his football and baseball games and he came to all my cheerleading competitions and pep rallies. When we graduated, we continued our relationship for another four years at Texas A&M University.
“I had just got back from a hiking trip in Canada and while trying to regain my strength and battle my exhaustion, Daniel was taking care of me all day. We were supposed to meet up with a couple of friends from DC on the boardwalk in Austin (where I live) to show them a “downtown Austin experience”.
He wanted me to be well rested for our night so we both took a long nap before we woke up late and rushed to get ready. I put on the first thing I saw in my closet and spent all of 10ish minutes getting ready while doing my makeup in the car on the ride over. We got there (on time surprisingly) and we started taking a walk along the boardwalk to meet our “DC Friends”.
“It was a June summer night but the weather was perfect. It was extremely breezy and warm but not too warm. The sun was just about to set so the sky was pink and colorful. I kept saying how perfect the night was and how beautiful the sky looked, while I made fun of Danny for having a sweater over his arm. Each person who kept passing us just kept starring.. I honestly thought it was because of the fact that we were dressed kind of nice to be walking on the trail in the evening with all the runners and bike riders.
“We reached a curve in the trail and I immediately saw a young woman taking pictures of the sky. I thought “oh how pretty, she is taking pictures of the sunset” which is not unusual on the Austin Boardwalk. I continued walking until I saw an abundance of pictures hanging on the railings and rose petals and candles covering the ground. I then said aloud, “aw how cute, look at these pictures”, not realizing what was happening… It took a few seconds of looking at all the photos when I realized they were photos of ME AND DANIEL dating back to our high school and college years.
“It was 10 years worth of our fondest memories together. I immediately started busting out tears (and I’m not a big crier). As soon as I turned to my left, I see Danny throw the sweater that was over his arm (hiding the ring) onto the ground and get down on his knee. I was crying so much I did not even hear him ask “will you marry me”. He had to ask me two times before I finally said yes. (consistent with our relationship).
“As soon as this happened, both mine and Danny’s families come out from behind the bend of the boardwalk where they were hiding and we all began to celebrate together. It was a perfectly planned proposal which caught me completely off guard, which is hard to do because I always like to know everything and find out everything so surprising me is a hard feat. Danny executed the proposal perfectly!”
Katherine and Danny, thank you so much for spending the afternoon with me capturing these beautiful images! Your engagement session was light, joyful and FUN…! I cannot wait to capture your beautiful wedding day!
